What do they eat? I have on in my tank. He has a lil landing at the top where he walks around on and he usually goes to the bottom sometimes. I've taken him out quiet a few times and tried feeding him live lil bitty worms, i think they were blood worms not sure. But he refused to eat him and hasnt eaten in a long long time... im kinda worried

Is the newt by itself or with other animals? Newts are carnivorous and only eat meat, what sort of newt is it? Newts like live food so try with earth worms, crickets, bloodworm etc. it may eat frozen, it is just trial and error. Taking it out of its enviroment to feed it won't help either, it needs to feel safe and secure, it might want to eat in the water, try putting foods in there with it.

I agrea we need to know what sort of newt he is, and what over fish/animals are in his tank.

I once had Red Spotted Newts in with ADF's. the newts would'nt eat or go in the water, because of the frogs.

It's a black spotted newt i think, im blanking on the name that was at the LFS but it has black spots and is orange. Its in my 29 gal aquarium and it has a lil landing at the top, i was told thats ok?

Eastern spotted newt

Red eft

Both of these are the same species, (the red eft is the juvenile stage of the eastern spotted newts, they stay on land while the adult stage, top link, remains in the water) do you have either?

My easern spotted newts are big and eat crickets, but I used to feed them frozen fish foods :)

What size is your newt? Personally if it is mainly aquatic I'd try feeding it live food in the water, small worms, etc. It might prefer to eat at night so maybe try it with something in the dark, it might help. If not I'd try one of the amphibian forums see if they can help.

Do you have any other animals in there tank??

when I had mine as I said they had frogs in with them that made them not want to go in the water and they would'nt eat.
