Here's my new baby, all tucked into Fishy's old tank.

Maxwell

Of course, I read the post on cycling *after* I moved him in. What should i be doing now, other than testing his water often? Hard to believe I kept a betta for four years with so little idea of how to do it.

Congrats on the new kid! :p With my bettas, I didn't cycle the tanks.

What size tank is he in? Mine that are in 1 gallons get 100% water change every sunday. The 2.5 gallons actually can go for 2 weeks if not in the direct line of natural light. Basically, you don't want to change it less than once a week because it can really stress him out. Once a week is a good routine to get into.

Other than feeding 1x day (I feed live bloodworms or Hakari betta pellets) or every other day as some do, just let him get some entertainment (a mirror for a few minutes if necesary). And a nice silk plant to hide in.

Have fun with your new baby, and feel free to ask more Qs! :D

He's got a 3 gallon tank with filter and bio filter and I'm washing the plastic plants in the dishwasher right now to sterilize. He hasn't eaten yet, and I've tried three different foods (flakes, bloodworms and Hikari Gold) but I'm putting that up to new home jitters. He is grabbing air often and blowing bubbles under part of the filter's plastic. Is that what a bubble nest is?
