right i will have (in 2 days anyway) a small 40 gallon pop up pond.

it comes with a pump. do i need a fliter or is the pump the filter too?

over the last day i have been monitoring the temperatur of water in the spot the pond will be going (water in a bucket and a thermometer) the temp yesterday ranged from 50f to 62f does this sound ok to you guys. in the winter the pond will be brought indoors to the garage.

I plan on getting 2 maybe 3 goldfish, is this ok for 40 gallons and what type should i be getting?

I would like some plants and floating plants and will have to order from green line can anyone suggest any.

how often will i need to do water changes? i can do as many a week as needed as it will be so easy to change the water outside (no fear of dropping water all over the carpet).

any other suggestions really to help me succeed, i know the pond is small but i got to start somewhere.

cant really help with the pump but i thought you were going to put the fantails in it?

fantails can be comfortable with 10 gallons per fish but the common types need around 15 gallons each when small.
the temperature is fine for goldies but i think the fantails may need it just a bit higher than that.
as for plants then maybe a water lily and some elodea that the fish can eat on a regular basis and help oxygenate the water. :)

have decided on moving my two fantails and see how they get on. think they will enjoy 20 gallons each.

i will look into both them plants

cheers
