I've always used plastic plants and am considering changing to real plants, but I need some advice please!

Firstly I have a fine gravel substrate, do I just dig the plants into it?

Then how do I keep them? Do I have to add some sort of plant food? I've seen on this site people talking about adding CO2 to their tanks, it sounds very complex?

I'm also soaking some bog wood currently, and would like to attach some larger leafed plants to this, how do I go about doing this, just tie them to it and leave for a couple of months?

Thank you for any replies in advance!

The answer to your first 2 questions really depends on what plants do you want, and what kind of light do you have?

To answer the 3rd question, you can tie it down with thread or use a little bit of super glue.

If you don't want to invest in a high light source, or pressurized Co2, you can start with a low tech(low light) set-up.

There are a variety of hardy plants that will grow well in low light situations, and are really easy to care for. Most need little to no fertilizer dosing...depending on your stock size.

There is a great list of plants to look over in the PARC section. :good:

Your best bet is reading "back to basics" in this set of threads and having a look in the other threads there. ;)
