Baffled Newbie -not sure what to so with this hardware (or even what it is???)

Bought a Jewel Rekord 90 2nd hand. Came with a Pump 400GB, whatever that is!!!
The tank has a rigid sort of black plastic box running full height at one end but there i snothing in it.
Is this 400GB a filter?
If yes how do I connect it? It came with a plasctic elbow pipe and some plastic balls, no idea what they are or even if they are part of the pump
If pump cannot be used as filter, what sort of filter doI need..and what is the pump for?

Hi

have a look on here http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/standard205.htm?cat=75 it has all the instructions, you should have some sponges in there somewhere

thanks

Emma :)
Yes that's the one - thanks for your prompt help Emma. A few more questions:
1. The pump thing just sits on top of the housing above the sponges -there is no physical connection between the sponge part and the pump, right?
2. Do I really need to buy all these different coloured Juwel sponges as instructions say? Ordered pond filter on Ebay (see below). Can I use bits of that cut to size instead? Very limited budget, hence 2nd hand tank (didn't include Juwel sponges)
3. Someone on this forum said you should only use carbon for removing meds, not all the time/ Does this mean I don't have to buy/install one? Guess Juwel is trying to sell as much stuff as possible. They also recommend changing sponges every 6 weeks but I heard this should be only every 6months, otherwise
4. What's the cheapest way to fill up the filter with sponge?

OK I'll chop up the one I bought on Ebay. 2 mor questions
1.I have 3 marble sized bioballs, where do they go? No mention of them in Juwel instructions
2. Do I need floss??? above and below sponges
Thanks for your help everyone -I was totally clueless about filters
