newbie light help

Hi probably are really stupid question

my tank came with a built in light heater etc. should i be keeping the light on for a certain amount of time in a day or is it just to show the fish off.

just like us fish need light. it's normally recommended to have the light on for around 10 -12 hours a day though some people will tell you less. i currently have mine on for 10 hours a day between midday and 10 pm. it all depends on when you're going to be in. the light makes the fish feel better and look nice.

you'll also need the light if you have live plants in the aquarium cos without light, they'll die

I think i will try and put mine on at 5pm and switch it off at 10 pm as i dont really want it on when i am away from the house.
