Hi! I am new at this but have had tropical fish my entire life. Right now I have a 55gal community tank. I have a 7 in Kisser who is 15 years old. My question is about a large black spot on his side. It has been there for years and I have never gotten an answer on what it is and how to get rid of it. Any Ideas??

Hi Candi,

Your Gourami's a good age and if that spots been there for years I'm sure its nothing to worry about......but I dont know what it is I'm afraid...has it been there since it was young???....maybe a photo would help someone spot what it is....

Hi Candi,

I'll have to agree with Phase2 on if it's been there for years and has had no ill effect on the fish it's nothing to worry about.

I am thinking it is possibly melanoma, as old fish are predisposed to this along with other things. I have an old fish that continuosly has a patch of fungus on the same spot on one of her pectoral fins. It comes and goes. Much like all other organisms, things just don't function that great when we get old. :)

Thanks guys. I won't worry... just curious. You all seem like a nice bunch (school  )
