my 70g tank will be finished cycling soon and i have chosen 2 or 4 firemouths and i want other cichlids i was told that new worlds and african dont get along but i want colorful fish that resemblr the colors of labs or electric blues but will get along with firemouths or what r other very colorful fish that could be in the tank

Whether you go with 2 or 4 of them can make a difference on what else you can keep. In general new world fish don't have the bold colors of Africans, but there are many with plenty of color and unique markings as well.

i have a pic of a festivum cichlid and they are a very nice colour of blue much like some african cichlids

Kribs are a west african species not new world, they only get to about 3" and may get bullied by the firemouths. I would suggest one of the more peaceful central american cichlid species such as Cichlasoma nicaraguense or Cichlasoma spilurum for tankmates for firemouths.

I know where kribs come from too ,it was just a suggestion , They behave more like new world cichlids than africans mentioned above and are colorful besides . I've kept them with fire mouths and many other species of fish as well without any serious problems , I've had red tail sharks do more damage to each other. Tank size matters , cfc you you seem extremely knowledgable , I posted A question a few days ago , how about trying to help me out ? , instead of jumping on my back when I offer some advice from my more than thirty years of expieriance in this hobby , to other people . how about it . Advice from one person to the next is almost always different , what works for one doesn't always work for the other .Ask 10 people the same [fish]question ,and you will probably get 10 different answers . No one person has all the answers .Fish are highly adaptable animals , and thats why !!!! They probably adapt to things better than people . "Why can't we all get along " . " Sorry for misleading anyone ".

Im sorry if you felt my post was intended as a dig at you, i assure you it was not, you would be suprised just how many people do not realise that cichlids come from more areas than jsut the large african lakes and central america. As you have said tank size does really make a difference with cichlids but as we already know that it is a 70 gallon tank i feel that it is not enough room for a pair of kribs to be able to survive with a possible breeding pair or trio of much larger firemouths.

I apologise for missing your question but obviously i cannot be here 24 hours a day and do miss posts from time to time especially if it has been busy, if you would pm me a link to the question or bump it to the top of its forum so it gets noticed ill take a look and do my best to answer it.

I made that comment when I was brand new here , still kinda new . I joined the forums to get some info about fish I had not yet kept , and to help my son with his fish [ my son is now dwarfs , has been for a while ].

so
anyway I didn't realize how easy it can be to mislead people , but it is .

CFC , I apologized to you in a PM several weeks ago , but I would like apologize to anyone else , that may have taken offence .

I'VE BEEN IN THE HOBBY A LONG TIME , and I have my opinions .

Sometimes it's hard to word them so they don't sound like facts .

***Sometimes I may forget to mention where a fish comes from ****

I have also had some good success in in my fish keeping technics . Anyway , sorry I got off on the wrong foot , and for using this post for an apology . I couldn't think of a better place .
