I finished school in 1970 and started work on 4th January 1971...... (currently still doing the same job - after 41 years)

I was really excited about my very first paycheck ever and for almost the whole month..... I was in town doing window shopping and updating my list of what to get myself with my first paycheck....

In those days, Bell-bottoms were still the fashion of the day so I got myself a Hipster type white (with black stripes) bell-bottom trousers, a pair of white shoes, a red gholf shirt and a "Duffle coat".... Looking back today, I cannot believe that I even wore those "Hippy" fashions..... (I also bought my parents and brother some gifts)

Can you remember what you bought with your first paycheck.....

I'm not sure if it was what I bought with my first paycheck, but I remember a mobile phone was my first big purchase. It sounds ridiculous these days as every kid has a mobile phone, but this was some years ago now and my parents forbid me to have a mobile phone, but it was one of the first things I bought with my own money.

first thing i really saved up for when i had my first summer job was a guitar.

im talking about theblack one, 1972 fender custom telecaster. next to a '62 custom worth plenty

i dont know how i saved up for it, i was earning pennies and the guitar cost me over 600 quid. few months of saving, looking through the fender catalogues during the whole time :hey: i couldnt afford to buy it now, thats for sure.

lesson to the young 'uns - buy all the good stuff before you start paying car, house, and woman bills

Earning money when I was young was the worst thing I could have done because it encouraged me to leave school.
I was young and me and my girlfriend had our first child so earning money was a decision I had to make.
With it I bought food, baby bits and pieces, money went into rent and there wasn't an awful lot left as we were living on our own with bills to pay and a wee mouth to feed.

I hated school & left early, it was the late 60's & easy to find work.
I couldn't wait to get my first pay-packet, my first purchase was a Biba mini skirt

Ahhaa...

My first job when i was 16 was working in Somerfields on weekends and i cant describe how much i hated it!

Money went on Pro Plus (to get me through college), driving lessons at £42 for 2 hour session as it took half hour each way from where i live to get to town!) and petrol/insurance/etc for my moped.

I earned money from an early age. My family lived in a small village and our neighbour grew fields, and fields of tobacco where we helped collecting the leaves, dead heading the plants and stringing up the leaves to be hung in the loft to dry.

My sisters and I also helped out in the town's hotel/bar/restaurant at weddings, baptisms, confirmations and such. We started the day before the celebration by helping the cook forming the meat balls (for the soup) laying out the table cloths on the tables, wiping the cutlery and glasses then setting the tables. The next day we helped serve and clean up!

I saved my money in the bank and then bought my own bicycle, it was metallic green.

At the age of 15 I worked in our town's city hall during the summer. That money went into savings!

Later, when I earned money as a nursing student, my money went to pay the small rent at the nursing student residence, and I helped my parents pay my younger sister's education and boarding school fees to become an early education teacher.

Where do you live... ;) Love the 62 tele. Beaut.

I have a Custom Les Paul that would sit well between them... :)

First pay went on paying for tools. I was a mechanic, you need the tools to do the job, but you have to do the job to pay for good tools. Tough time being an apprentice.!

Spent pretty much my whole (Fortnightly) pay check on a MASSIVE 20GB ipod lol Worth every penny till it broke :(

But now all my pay check goes on Morgage, Bills, Shopping, Car and theres a tiny bit left for fish releated items lol

Well the first thing I bought with my own money was a first generation iTouch lol $225 then next month the 2nd gen came out for $220.
But the first money I spent from my job (painting mailboxes in my neighborhood) bought me my first aquarium and starting supplies along with some spray paint etc to continue my business. It's a good job. To this day from last years working I've bought all of my fish supplies + about $100 on video games etc and still made $300 profit. I made a little over $1500 in one summer. Business year for me is about to start again :) and this year mowing lawns is also on my list of stuff I can do :)

Yeah I make either $30 or $50 on each one depending if that want new numbers too. I was making $100-$200 a week

I was still at school - 1985.
Had a holiday job at a camping equipment shop. I used to get R10 a day (at today's exchange rate that is 84p or $1.34)
