Hello,
I have a Fluval/Hagen 800 duo set up, but the tubes look old, do they lose brightness over time? What wattage and colour etc. do I need for a reasonably well planted community aquarium?

Thanks, Mark.

Hi Mark

I currently have Aqua Glow and Power Glow tubes in my Fluval Duo 600. I been told that they should be replaced on a yearly basis as they do lose their intensity and cause the aquarium to look dull.

You can get a variety i.e. Power Glow, Aqua Glow, Sun Glow and Flora Glow they r pricey so i would shop around.

Just take an old tube with you, wattage is printed on the side of tube.

Good luck

Look at local lighting supply stores too. I got my bulbs for 7$ a piece there. They are 30 watt, 6500k white light bulbs. My store went through this giant book to look for exactly what I wanted. A simelar bulb at my LFS was $25.

Just a thought

I would recommend you stay away from high Kelvin bulbs. Aim to get some that are around 5000-7000K. No matter what the fish store guys tell you, powerglo and aquaglo are not the best bulbs for plants. Get a life-glo IMO.
