Hello all. My name is Paulie B. and I'm new here. I'm an ex-newspaperman on disability for some health issues. I got tired of sitting around so I decided to pick up an old hobby of mine -- fishkeeping. Until about six months ago I hadn't had a tank in years, though I had several back then.
Anyway I started back with a 5-gallon Glofish tank, which has since been converted to a regular tank. It's got a few danios, a couple Aeneus corys, and a female dwarf gourami who I rescued from the main tank when her male counterpart harassed her relentlessly. She went from being totally stressed to happy as could be, interacting pleasantly with all her tank mates. Plants are just plastic, internal Whisper filter, no-name submersible heater that works ok. I added one of those goofy programmable light deals that changes shades, which I turn on briefly from time to time for my own amusement. Usually I just leave it in daylight mode for the fishes' sanity.
My current main tank is a 20 gallon housing three electric blue rams, a few red sailfin corys, some cherry barbs and the aforementioned male red flame dwarf gourami, who is a bully and a real jerk and is slated to be moved out. Live plants include some dwarf hairgrass, a couple cryptos, some moneywort and a gorgeous Tiger Lotus. They're planted in a Rhyzomat, which gives the roots a solid grip. A 40-gallon Whisper filter, a 100-watt Orlusky heater and a Whisper air pump with a 2-inch diffuser make up the hardware.
My next project is likely to be a 29 gallon (or 40, if I can find a reasonably priced one). I definitely want to keep angels again. I think a 29 gallon should hold a pair ok, at least while they're young. In fact I'm about to post a stocking question in another forum.
That's my story. Thanks for having me!
