My wife and I just started getting into the saltwater fish after doing freshwater (been members of other parts of the forum for a bit now). We understand about being able to have less "fish" but there also are alot of other sealife we like (http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=16903) . We have a 55 gal and we are planning on adding a Cyclone BAK-PAK 2 Bio-Filter. We are still reading and researching but what other things should we consider before thinking of our stocking (besides liverock)?

IF you are going to keep corals, you can decide what kind you will keep to help with your lighting decisions.

On a 55 gallon, a good VHO lighting setup should work well for most corals except sps.

Yes start with what corals you plan to keep. Then decide on your lighting. Will you have a sump for the system? What kind of lighting and circulation will all depend on the stock you plan to keep. This will also help determine if you need to dose certain elements into the tank.
