Hi All,

I've started my adventure with aquariums about 3 years ago. I had a bowl in the beginning with one gold fish, then I moved the goldfish to 60L aquarium and bought another one. At the moment I'm running 200L aquarium with two large goldfish, one baby goldfish and one pleco. The reason I'm writing in this section of forum is that I'm thinking of using the 60L tank for marine/reef. I know you might say that I haven't got enough experience but I feel quite comfortable with running the 200L freswater tank. There's not much problems and it's well established now. I'm fully aware of the fact that saltwater tank needs much more attention.

I would like to avoid having seperate tank beneath the main one together with all the equipment. Is that possible at all ? I saw very small tanks in the shop (35L I think) which had everything attached to the back of the tank. If it's possible what kind of equipment do I need ? I've got Fluval U2 filter. Would that be useful for filtering ?

The reason I'm asking all those questions is that I want to avoid problems I had with my goldfish. I wanted to save my first goldfish as the owner wanted to flush it down the toilet. After noticing that there is something wrong with my fish I started reading about nitrogen cycle, water parameters, etc. This time I want to do it the other way around. Firstly, get as much information as possible and then buy fish.

Best regards,
Szatek

:hi: to the salty side of the forum :good:

Before we talk salty, your current set-up, has a goldfish and a plec  what are you going to be doing about that tank, the goldfish is a cold water fish and the plec is a tropical fish?

Ok, back to salty: yes it is possible to have a marine tank without too much experience :good: my sister did it without any experience of fish at all, however she was prepared to except help.

The sort of tank you are talking about is often referred to as a plug and play tank, there are several available: orca/Boyu tanks, D & D tanks, River reef to name but a few :good: With either of those tanks, you will need live rock, an extra power head, sand, test kits, ro containers, salty water, refractometer - thats a basic list

Hi Seffie,

Thanks for the reply.

Bearing in mind I've got the tank together with the filter what is the next step to set up the tank ? Can you please provide me with some more details like brands, equipment type and parameters, etc.

Best regards,
Szatek

PS. As for the plec I was advised to buy it because I had problem with algea in my tank. I keep the temperature at 22 degrees all the time and was told that it should be enough. The plec acts normally so far.
