ive just bought a 6ftx1.5x1.5 tank and i want to go for a saltwater tank.

ive had a freshwater tank for around 4 months now and had one or two problems that ive had to deal with and sort out and everything is going great now, but looking around the LFS's the saltwater fish always look so much more colourful and attractive so im thinking about using the big tank as a saltwater tank.

is it much different from a freshwater tank? is there much difference in cost/time between running the two?

any help at all would be much appreciated.

wow just went and read a few of the stickies, there aint no way im ready for a reefer!!

well don't count yourself out. A fowlr (Fish Only With Live Rock) could be a suitable start. Things tend to get a little more involved when corals are added, but this is not a neccessary step. I've had a fowlr for the last year, and beyond the bi-daily glass scraping, skimmer emptying, and water changes, it's actually pretty simple. I would agree that saltwater seems to be much more colorful then fresh, but there are plenty of freshwater species that have tons of colors (and not the dayglo danios that they sell either...). either way, if you decide to go salt, there are numerous "experts" on TFF that can help with any question or problem that may arise... so don't feel intimidated at all :good:

cheers for the reply, it just seems so daunting from reading a few stickies about it lol.

i think im gonan leave it for a while and see how i feel further down the line, im pretty friendly with a very local LFS so i dont think i'd much problem swapping fresh for saltwater fish if i decide to change.

thanks again. :good:

No Prob. If you do decide to change.... like I said, TFF will always be here. Nothing wrong with staying with fresh either. Many memebers on here have stunning freshwater tanks and even where some of them cost as much if not more than a salty aquarium!! Just stick with it an the bug will come itching again and you'll be wondering where next to go in the world of fish keeping :good:
