Hey
Im sure you wont regret getting some cories, they are great fish and good fun to watch!
Good cories to start with would be bronze/albino or peppered and you'll have no problems getting them to breed! You should read up about fishless cycle to cycle your tank. This will take less time then fish cyling and you will be able to add your cories as soon as it is complete. Good luck!
I agree cute little things and active and entertaining to watch, they will need a cycled tank as they are senstitive to water quality, the panda cory which i have are the hardiest of the corys to keep. http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=95845
The easiest corys to keep and to get to spawn are, IMO, the bronze or albino C. aeneus. They are easy to find and unlike C. paleatus (peppered corys) are not likely to eat their eggs.
When you shop for them, look for the biggest ones in the tank and get some of them. They will be the females. After you pick them out, give them a good looking at from the top. You will see that they are sort of round. Then pick out some slender ones from the dealer's tank. They are the males. If you are planning ahead, it's good to have 2 males to each female so that when they do spawn, the eggs will all be fertile.
Please keep us up to date on your progress setting up your tank.
Enjoy them they are fun little critters I got 7 of them its very enjoyable watching them swimming over everything in the tank. I love it when they line up in a row. hehe
The tank has been set up for a while now and I have just brought my first Corys.
I have got 4 Peppered Corys and they seen to be settling in very fast, they look really nice!!
