New To Bettas

hi all i am new to bettas and am hoping to get one next month.

just a few questions if thats ok.......?

* how big a tank do i need?

* if i get a male betta what tank mates can he have?

* any tips for us newbees?

* do i need a filter and heater in tank?

Hi, cant promise this to be the best advice but hey ill give it a shot:

Well this depends, 1 gallon to 10 gallon i would say

if i get a male betta what tank mates can he have?
African DWARF frogs are ok be sure not to get CLAWED as they will attack your betta, umm cories are sometimes good but kee an eye on them and i think khuli loach are goods with them aswell. Onepoint is to keep them away from nippy tetras, colourful fish (I.E Livebearers) and anything with flowing fins (I.E Gouramies).

any tips for us newbees?
Erm.. keep the water in good condition and im sure your betta will live a long and happy life

do i need a filter and heater in tank?
Well i would definatley a sponge box filter minimum to disturb the top of the water just gently to stop a dusty scum forming on the surface and it will aid with mechanical and biological filtration
