I have a 2 gallon that I set up as a nursery, but my mollies never had babies so I gave up on them.......I was in Wal-mart and looked at the bettas. I bought the spunkiest one that was there. He has a red head with red front fins then goes from turquoise blue to his tail has streaks of purple in it. He is happily swimming around his new home and has eaten.

My question is this: Will his fins and tail spread out in time? Is it just from being trapped in a little cup for so long? Advice?

I personaly think that his fins wont go out because walmart bettas are mutts but on the other hand im kinda new to bettas but i have had walmart bettas an my step bro has one now my i have an Apache DT an hes got more character then any fish ive ever EVER had

Just because a betta is from Walmart doesnt mean that its fins wont flare out :) I have many bettas from Walmart and all there fins flare out and are very beautifull

ya but is it when they arnt pissed? they pic of the betta in my avator is my apache an he isnt flared or anything i jus snaps the shot when he turned side ways.

Ok.....I'm not trying to have a "wal-mart is betta hell" type of thread. I have legitimate questions.

He is very perky and seems to like his new home. And, by the way, he looks as good as most of the males do from either of the two local fs. I'm just wondering if they "close up" when they are in small stressful containers?

My 3 year old son (one of twins) just announced that the fish's new name is "big boy". :)

Alix, don't take this wrong, but your posts are too dang hard to read. Please add punctuation.

i never said wal mart is betta hell(doesnt meen its not) but ya some times when they are stessed or they will not flare out as much. but i had one that even in a 5gal wouldnt flare up an i got him from walmart. an i even did acouple daily water changed for about a week an he still jus cooped up. i think its in there personaly to flare up. like in real life you have the nerds(puny bettas) an the bullys(flared out bettas) an maybe you jus got a spunky nerd :p no offence but coming up with nutty ideas is what i do best :fish:

His fins are out a bit now. He doesn't look like someone constipated any more! :D Maybe they'll open more.

bad ass hope me flips out as much as mine does. when i walk past my tank mine does acouple circles around his holder then gets close to the glass an doesnt move till he needs to breath, i walk buy, or i put some food in.

He's most likely still a juvenile. Give him some time to grow and fill out and get used to having a nice, clean home. Then he should have some very nice finnage. :)
