I have just upgraded from a 25L tank to a 54L tank. I have list my 2 Platys. I have 5 Rummy nose tetra as well. They all look OK, but I'm worried they will die as well ?. They are all staying in the corner and not swimming around much?? Do they look ok do you think? I want to add some more, how long should I wait?

How long has the tank been set up?
Is it cycled?

Just over a week, the water readings are ok and I transferred everything and also in the old water and just topped up with new water, I've left the old filter in as well as the new one

How long was the original tank setup?
What are your readings for ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte?

The old rank was set up in the summer 2020, fish were really happy. Nitrite is 0, ammonia is 0 and Nitrate is 5 ish.

Your water looks good....my guess is that you need to add more rummys, all tetras do better in big groups, ESPECIALLY rummys...

Oh great, I'm doing something right then!! Do you think it would be ok to add more or do I have to wait? Also I loved my Platys, could I add a couple of those too? Sorry for all the questions ?

I think it would be fine to get more rummys now....5 or 6 more
As for the platys, just keep in mind that they are livebearers, and breed prolifically...and in a tank that size, fry could overwhelm your filter capabilities quickly...get males if you must have them, but they are heavy bioload contributors alone, and much more with fry...females can come from the shop already impregnated, as well...I learned that the hard way

Haha we had two boys Eric and Ernie RIP so that wasn't an issue!! Thanks for your advice, I may get some more later this week once I am happy these 5 are ok ?? do you think they look ok?

Their color is a bit faded, it should improve with more members and more time in the new tank...but they don't look too bad

Hi Jules, welcome to the forum :)
Before you add more Rummies, please be aware that the recommend tank size is 90cm+

My rummies swim constantly so I agree something is amiss; I would do a 50% water change in case there is an unseen toxin/ irritant effecting them. Rummies like a warmer tank than platys - check that the temperature is 76f minimum for the rummies and rethink having the cooler water platies as it is better to keep fish in the middle of their temperature range. Also platies need harder water.

My tank is only 60cm ? I have upped the temp to 26 degrees does it need to go higher?
