my mum filled up my new 35litre, 75 gallon tank last night, its got a built in filter that is supposed to be big enough to manage the tank, and have also put in an internal filter from our other tank to help with maturing the water

so why is it still cloudy, i remember filling the other tank (180ltrs 45 gallons) and it was crystal clear the next morning.

could it be because we have put sand in this one and all of our other tanks had gravel?

when should we start introducing fish??

thanks

just thought to mention,

its a corner tank and the glass is curved, wondered if this might have anything to do with it?

hello hattie :)

from what i have read, sand often clouds the tank at first. did you wash it befor you put it in the tank? hopefully, it should clear up in a day or two. Hear is a link to a thread where people talk about sand and it clouding the water:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=51607&hl=sand

if the internal filter you have used is from another, well-established tank, you can add fish straight away, but add them gradually, for example 2-3 small fish each week. This is because the filter from your other tank will have beneficial bacteria on it already, so it can support the fish. (I presume your other tank had two filters??)

the other tank also had a built in one but mum says you can't have too much filtration

hope she's right ;)

your mum is spot on

the more filtration, the better. A clean environment means healthy fish. ;)

If you'd like to learn more about maturing the water to get it ready for fish, there's a topic in this section called "Avoiding and Treating New Tank Syndrome"
which you might want to read.

I hope the cloudiness settles down soon :)
