Hello all I currently have a 55l tank full cycled I've just bought 105l tank new filter heater , I've put the new cartride from the new filter in old tank wedged by a rock iam planning on leaving in tank for a week or so untill I set up new tank ,I'll be replacing my gravel with sand in new tank what's the best way to transfer my fish over to new tank I will be grateful for ideas and suggestions thanks

just put them in a bag or thin plastic see through contatiner and treat them like new fish from pet store, any acclimation is fine

The best way to cycle a new tank is by seeding the new filter media with old filter media from a previously cycled aquarium. There are some that believe you can get an instant cycle by doing so, but I take the more cautious route. It can take up to two weeks or a month for the new media to be completely matured with beneficial bacteria from seeded media. Here is a sticky link to cycling an aquarium written for this forum.

Thanks for your reply , I'll will try with the old media and some old water , and just keep testing it ,there are so many different suggestions to transfer them over I think caution will be best thanks for your time and help??

The old media will help, but don't use the old water. Use good clean water. Beneficial bacteria do not live in the water column, and besides your old water is bad for your aquarium.

If you intend to transfer all the fish to the larger tank, you just need to set up the new tank and when you have everything arranged as you want, move the old filter and fish into the new tank at the same time. Run both filters for at least a month, then remove the media from the old filer a bit at a time till it's all gone then remove the old filter.

If you want to keep both tanks running, I would take some media from the old filter and use it to do a fishless cycle.
