The wife and I just recemtly setup and started stocking a 55gal. We have heard a lot about us having gravel in the tank, a UGF and the like. my questions are :
1) If we switch to sand what's the best way not suction it up during a water change?
2) To setup more hiding places is PVC acceptable? I know terra cotta pots work but not sure if the material is safe for them.
Had another but forgot it..If I remeber I will post again.
Thx

yes the pots material is safe. I think ive seen people that have pipes in their tanks in the picture area before.

you can't have an UGF with sand unless you put a barrier between the UGF and the sand. there is a product on the market that is for this job but I don't know the name or maker, sorry. It looks like hessian but with smaller mesh.
Tarracotta pots are fine, but if they have been used for other things before boil them for 1/2 an hour.

hope this helps
