lowestoft,
im looking into getting a new tank going to take about a year to get it all set up. The tank im looking at is a 194litre tank with a 100litre sump i just need a little info
1.can i class the tank as 294 litre (adding together main tank and sump)

2.do i need lighting for the sump tank

3.what do i need to connect it to the main tank

4 what would stocking be like for the tank, could i fit a fair few fish and corals in the tank

5. the tank says it come with 1xweir whats one of them?

thanks for your help

1. I would say it depends on the situation. When specifically speaking of tank size, I would say 194 litres. I speaking of just water volume, I would state the whole 294 Litre.

2. Not unless you plan on having a refugium. If you're having a refugium section in the sump with macroalgae etc. you're going to want a light for the macro to grow.

3. I simply used PVC pipe to connect my DT and sump. If having a sump, your DT will either need to be drilled or you will need an overflow box. If you drill your tank, the water will naturally fall from the tank and go down the piping into the sump. If you use an overflow box, it will most likely work by using a U tube which siphons the water from your DT, into the overbox, and then into the sump. At the other end of the sump a pump would bring the water back up to the DT.

4. 194 litres is a good sized tank. The sump will allow you to slightly stretch your stock limit. You have too many choices to even really mention! Clownfish, gobies, blennies, cardinals, wrasses, anthias, hawkish, angels, firefish etc.
Search around sites like http://www.liveaquaria.com
to see a common selection of fish and see what you like! If you do want corals, there are fish that will eat them so you'll want to make sure you have "Reef Safe" fish. This excludes most butterflies and a good amount of angel fish and others. See what you like and post here if you have questions about them! :)

5. I would guess a weir would be the overflow box for directing water into the sump :)

1. The tank volume you would be using for stocking is 194L Your sump should never be full mine is barely half full
2. as Nemo said you should light the rfeguim with a light to proote algae growth
3. There are many diffrent ways to plumb a tank in most succesful ways are drilled with an internal weir these do not generaly fail where as over flows can loose suction and flood the room
4. The sump will allow you to be heavily stocked but the fish must be of a suitable size for your tank as in a fish that needs 50 Gallons would be to big for the tank.
