I think this is the right forum, i posted on the newbie forum and didnt get much of a reply.

I just bought a 35 gallon tank, and after much research and long nights, i think i finally know what i am going to put in it. I am not a complete newbie, Ive had a teeny 6 gallon tank for a year and it looks great. My sister also lives nearby with a few tanks. I live right next to a great fish store where they wont sell me anything unhealthy or what wont work in my tank. From them and other sources of info, i have compiled a list of what i think might be compatable

35 gallon tank:

5 or more rumy nosed tetras

6 neon tetras

2 zebra danios (to cycle the new tank)

1 or two dwarf gouramis

1 or two german blue ram (are these ok to keep with the other fish?)

2-3 cory catfish

The set up would vary a bit between numbers, and i know not to add all fish at once, but over a few weeks.

I have bought chunks of lava rock and plan to have all live plants in my tank, with very fine natural colored gravel. I know all about the plant fertilizer and CO2 pump, which i plan to get when i set up the tank. The tank also has flourescent lighting.

Is all of this compatable? Please feel free to reccomend other fish!

Thanks alot :]

Fish wise, they are all compatible. But have you kept plants before? I'd hate to see you spend $$$ on plants and related equipments, only to see it fail. Why not read up on plants and THEIR requirements. Just as not all fish can be kept togather, some plants can't be kept togather due to different requirements. You might want to elaborate on your planned setup in the plant/planted tank forum.

have you given a thought to fishless cycle? It is quite easy and you wouldn't have to put any fish trough the harmful cycle.

You also could increase the numbers of small tetras, or maybe just choose one small tetra specie. It's a matter of taste really,as long as the minimum groupsizes are followed, but in my opinion tanks look more stabile and pretty with large schools.

my suggestion;
20 neon tetras
1+2 dwarf gourami harem
8 panda corys(prefer fine sand for substrate)

Very nice set of fish, I would also recomend getting a very large shoal of the tetras (neon or rummy) (Rummy's school more so probly them)

I also have german blue rams and know them to be great peacefull fish that pair off but can get more aggressive as any fish are when breeding.
give this a read on them cos they can get to 3"

I'd also go for a small plec but one that stays small like a stone sucker, i had one and they're timid and stay still a lot, but fast as hell if disturbed.
Good luck

is you feel you are ok at keeping tropical fish i think you should have some guppies like 5 to 6 there a nice lovin fish but take some looking after i love them i got 8. also i think you should get some tiger barbs there a nice fish that dont really take that much looking after. ty
