OK I am about to purchase a juwel rekord rio 180 and I cant make my mind up what to start with fish wise once I've got it set up. Do not want to move any of my community fish from my siggy into the tank but i'm not sure if I can put a fish in that needs a little bit more care or just stick to a few danios, tetras or platies till water parameters are ok. I am planning on a slightly different colour and variety in this tank to what I have already. Will listen to Gaz' advice (aquarium shop guy) but would like to know your opinions on this or any problems etc as not to get a less hardy fish for first one in tank.

Please note I am in UK as I have read some threads and advice from different countries that varies slightly.

TY for any info or suggestions you supply.

I suggest you do a fishless cycle. I made the mistake of not doing it, and it took/is taking way longer than it should. Check out the stickies for my information.

Could you suggest any fish different from what I have got after the cycle ?

Oh, after the cycle. Look around your fish store and see what appeals to you most. I would go with a nice looking tetra or guppy (of course groups of them), and a cory catfish. Really, what ever you like most though.

At first i would add some more fishys into the schools you already have. 6 or so is the minimum school size, and corydoras are schooling fish also.

After this it would be easier to estimate how much more could you stock. If there is enough room, a small pleco such as a bushnynose would fit in the 180 liter tank. Are you keeping your other tank too?How big is the current setup?
