New Tank

Hello , again! Into week 2 of cycling and all seems to be going ok. I have added an air stone, but the pump makes such a noise it sort of takes away the pleasure of having the tank in my front room.

Are there any ways of making it quiet? I remember my dad used to keep fish years ago and had a really mechanical lookiing air pump, this thing had a wheel and a piston conected to the air tubes. I think it ran on electricity, but do remember it being very quiet. I dont seem to be able to find these anymore, and get some very odd looks at my lfs!!!

is the pump rattling against your stand or wall? if you want to silence it, make sure its not bumping up against hard surfaces and resonating, and failing that try wrapping it in some sound dampening material

Stand the pump on a piece of foam & it will deaden the noise.

i have a rena one and it is very quiet. i have it on a hard surface and can hardly notice the noise. the old one i had was a great big black thing and made a hell of a racket though - putting it on a soft mousemat makes it slightly dimmer.
