ok hows this sound?

i am thinking of upgrading my 2ft tank into a 30inch or maybe a 36inch tank, would it be ok to put it on the 2ft tank stand if i put some board under it to disperse the new weight properly?

thanks

It might well be O.K. but I personally would be happier if the stand was the same size as the proposed new tank. A DIY project for that size stand would not be too costly, and would certainly give you peace of mind.

We are not talking an overly large tank so I don't see any great trouble.

Thre larger board you are referring to will be, simply put, an adapter from your stand to tank.
Any local home improvement store will carry smaller cut sheets of plywood for this project.

Your very best bet would be to check out local cabinet shops for a drop out from a countertop where they cut out the sink. You should be able to cut this to size and they are generally quite thick and are to a degree more water resistant than your typical plywood. Most likely cheaper too...

Posting a pic of the stand would help. It's easy to say you could put a piece of 1" thick plywood on the top to support the larger tank, but I've seen some terrible stands that shouldn't hold the tank they were designed for, much less a larger one.
