New Tank Progress

Hi i started buying my marine stuff today and started selling my trops/fw inverts and plants.

My tank is going to be a 18 gallon Fish only Percula Clown set up.

So far i have bought..

1 bag of Coral sand (£3.90)
1 bag of live sand (£14.99)
1 5 kg ocean rock (£6.75)
a hydrometer (£8.99)

next week im gonna buy

1 x Koriella nano power head (£29.99)
1 x Marine light set up (£29.99)

and after that when cycled

4 x Turbo snails
1 x cleaner shrimp

and after a while

2 x percula clowns.

From my old set up I am keeping a Fluval 2+ running with floss (also as second power head) and my 150w heater.

I'll keep the thread updated with pictures and things.

A couple of questions...

Would adding a blue damsel be pushing it a little?
Am i adding to many Inverts?

was the guy who sold me ocean rock telling the truth that it will be live rock before i know it? should i still add maybe some rubble of live rock?

Hi,
Ditch the Damsel idea, nasty little buggers.
Add more inverts especially Cerith and Nassarius snails if you have gravel/sand
I would add a little LR to help seed the other. It will take some time though

Yeh i kinda changed my mind about the damsels after a bit of reading! lol

How much LR do you think i should buy? I dont wanna spend to much

5 kg should be alright i recon.

what shop do you go too? taunton is pretty local!

I use Taunton Aquarium Center when its open lol!! Watermarque for non live stock and Maidenhead Aquatics for freshwater stuff.

I'm still put off by the price of the live rock but if i have to i have to i suppose.

look on ebay and classified sections on Uk based sites for LR thats how i got mine at about £4.5/kilo

There won't be shipping if you find someone local that's tearing down a tank/downsizing or something along that line

Yes, that is what my sister and I did, got some lovely rock at a great price from a chap selling it on ebay - collected in buckets with water = perfect. Well worth the cost

Yeh thing is i dont drive and i live in Somerset....nobody does anything in somerset haha!

Tanks moving on swiftly now i have done a water test and all was perfect so i added 2 hermit crabs earlier today and 4 largish fake corals and some shells.

Got a nice big space on the right to fill up with LR.

My hermits seem to be OK,i dunno if theres anything for the lil dudes to eat tho,i havent had any algae yet.

Do they colour up as they get bigger? i bought them as blue legged hermits and they got black legs
