I wanna get a 10gal tank for my fry so would it be ok if i took the water from my 25 gal and put it in my new 10gal? Would that be ok for the fish? I will also be putting my old gravel from my 25gal into my 10gal as i am changing the gravel in my 25gal to sand. If i did this would i still have to cycle the 10gal cause i don't want to lose this fry to a non cycled tank.

It would be ok,but I'm not 100% sure if thats all it takes to make the tank liveable right away.
First off, I've heard that the rocks hold 70% of the GOOD bactirea that you want in your tank. Since your useing old rocks, you should be ok.
Secondly, I'm assuming your using a carbon filter. If you are, dont just put a brand new one and assume its complete. It should run for atleast 24 hours before I bet its ok to have fish live in.

If I were you, I'd fill the tank up 50% with used oldtank water, and 50% fresh water. Since your useing some old water, it will speed up your process by like....a day.
After you've added water and decorations, ect, run everything for 24 hours.
Then add your fry.
Thats what I would do, but I'm nopt a professional at this. I hope what Little info I gave you helps....

Edit: After I posted, I saw she edited her post, so I need to edit mine because of.....yeah, w/e.

It would certainly help towards cycling a tank - but no, it won't instantly cycle your tank.
The reason for this is that the vast majority of your beneficial bacteria resides in the filter. So, if you can perhaps take one of your old filter sponges or cut some off and add it to the new filter, that would help a great deal. The best and only way to know if your new tank is cycled, is to check regularly by doing nitrite, nitrate and ammonia test (on a daily basis). And only when your ammonia and nitrites read "0" you have a cycled tank.

Edit: if you have enough old (established) filter media (sponges etc.) to use in your new filter, the I'd add the fish as soon as possible - if not, the bacteria will start dying off if they do not have a source of ammonia.

Ok i have old filter media to put in there and i will try to get some test kits but need to work so i can get the money :D I have never cycled a tank before and didn't even know about it till i joined the forum so this is new to me. thanks

don't worry about the test kits if you don't have them at the moment. If you have enough old & established old filter media to put in your new filter (and some gravel etc.) you really should be fine

But as I said, add the new fish at the same time - bacteria will start dying off in a matter of hours if it does not have ammonia to keep the cycle going :)
