Well, my 1200L tank is now ordered and I've managed to get it drilled!!
I've also got a standard 4ft tank that is being converted into a 3 section sump as we speak by a friend who is good with acrylic.

Electrician has been in and added a second ring main to the house and 4 sockets in splashproof sockets.

The base is built and have had piloet holes drilled an a 1in piece of polystryrene and 1/4 inch neoprene are now down.

Back of the tank is has been pianted black and the LFS has 75kg's of LR arriving in the next 4 weeks for me.

The major bits of plumbing can be done a week after next, along with a test fit of the kit that's on order so hope to be doing a test run with fresh water soon.

Old computer server is on order from e-bay that will control my tank ( see my computerisation thread in Hardware )

Think I've got most of the major spending done, but will need a lot more LR I think.

When things arrive I will be posting pictures of the build.

Am so excited I can hardly sleep, and I've got nearly a month to wait!

Oh you have no idea

75kgs is going to be totally lost in that monster tank.........I have 60kgs in my 36g and it's only just filled

Time to sell a kidney :p

I can't wait to see it all going up :fun:

IMO you are going to have to add at Least another 40 - 50 kg of LR to your estimates

May be a good idea to remortgage or maybe sell a kid as the costs only go one way from here on in

:look: :look: :look:

Are you two trying to put him off at all  ??

Looking forward to seeing the pics, sounds like the beginings of a great tank. Oh I wish I had children of selling age as well B)

Holy mother a 300 gallon tank... WOW. What are its dimensions?

Am planning to get between another 75-100kg of LR, and then if it still looks bare maybe another 50-odd Kg.

Can do the lot within budget, I think. Am so far about £73 which isn't too bad after four figures of spend so far,

Tank dimensions are 7ft x 2.5ft x 3ft. This is my first marine tank as well!!
Sump is 4ftx1ftx15inches.

Total volume is about 335 gallons.

Went to re-measure the tank again on sunday. Suddenly hit home how damn big the thing actually is. May need to build myself my own resivior to fill it. 25% water changes will NOT be fun!!

I know it sounds mad, but we're getting a new extension of which half the ground floor will be my office and the idea has been that since we can get such a large tank through the window, we may as well get it. The oppurtunity will never present itself again. As there maybe a wee kiddie on it's way at some point, and I can be grumpy and unsocial, then I have this idea about having my office with a big chair, a big tank, a pile of books and a door with a lock on it. When it all gets too hectic I can escape for an hour and stare at the fishies.

I've got some non-fish keeping friends helping me out, which is proving really useful. They just see it as an interesting project to do at the weekends, but 2 have now gone out and brought FW tropical tansk already so I'm making converts out of them.

I've had some assistance getting the plans drawn up on AutoCAD, and another friend is doing the major plumbing for me. A friend of a friend, a qualified electrician, did the electrics at "mates rates".

Fiancee not too impressed at all, but she has been promised a cowfish and this is what has got me permission for the tank, as she thinks they're cool. Personally I think they look like swimming boxes, but what ever gets me the tank.

LFS has rung this evening to say that Live Rock has fallen through, so I'm now behind on the plan.

I'm also seriosuly considering, AGAIN, whether or not to do this as FW instead of marine. Barring the skimmer, which could feasibly be pressed into service, I can use everything I've already got and have a really nice, and a lot cheaper tank.

However, FW just isn't the same as marine. Argh!! So confused.

Will hold back on spending now until have worked out what to do.

Steve.

But if you go fresh, your fiance won't get her cowfish... Stick to the brownie points my friend :)

I think FW fish have their own appeal, and there are certainly lots that have alot of character and interest.

Having said this, Marine does fascinate me, but its mostly the inverts and corals that I love.

I agree with Chac, buying up old tank rock is by far the cheapest adn best way to get live rock as it usually has a load of frags all over it too.
