Hey Guys,
I'm thinking of setting up a new tank, I have a 15G that used to be my Gecko's tank (he died of old age) that I would have to clean out if I used that one or I found a guy that would give me a 20G long tank. Is there a big difference between the 20G long tank versus the tall (more square) one?

I want to get some Corydoras and some other friendly community fish, would the 20G tank be better for the Cories or would they be fine in the 15?

I know it's not much of a difference between the 2 but just wanted some suggestions....

And if anyone has any suggestions as to what fish would be good with the Cories in the size of tank I am thinking of would be great too :D

peaceful fish are okay with cories.

a very easy and low maintenance combo is 3 cories, the most colourful betta you can find and 2 females (or one in a jar, but that's just cruel).

good ph: 7.3 good temp: 26C.

danios might go well with these but i haven't tested it, if you wan't danios try and make it the last fish you buy for the tank becuase there are many shades and a rare yellow morph, so wait until there's a good morph for sale so you get the best.

and before i hope off the computer i must tell you cories like to go in well aged water (about 3 weeks aged at least so ad the bettas first but only add the females cause the males might establish the whole tank as their territory with no other fish around)

Hi purplefish212 :)

I say, if the 20 gallon long is free, go for it!

The long is a nice size tank for corys since it gives them more length to swim and the greater amount of water surface will insure that it's well oxygenated. I have both the 20 high and the 20 long and they both work out well.

Another advantage of the long tank is that if you ever want to upgrade it to a larger size, a 29 gallon will fit on the same stand. It has the same footprint, but is a few inches higher.

As long as their temperature requirements match, corys will do well with any kind of small, peaceful, community fish. Platies are colorful and would provide a nice contrast to the corys. :D

THank you guys very much for your help!

Inchworm I think I will go with the 20 gal, I believe I have the knowledge now to make it successful B-)
