Hi, can anyone help me? My dad sent me a new tank the orca mt50 80L aquarium. Lovely tank but it has a filter system built into the back with 4 compartments. When i filled the tank up the filter just doesnt seem to work very well. When we initially turned it on it just spluttered and spat a frothy scum (had rinsed all filter material and sponges well) out into the tank. The filter only seems to work effectively if the water level is right up to the top of the tank which seems wrong to me (the water level doesnt get high enough for the filter to work). Also when it is on the pump spits bubbles making the tank look cloudy. Another concern is that the filter compartments at the back are open so with such a high water level i am worried my top swimmers are going to go over into the filter compartments.

The nitrate level is off the scale and i know in my last tank we controlled this by having the filter above the water line but you cant do that with this tank. Luckily i havent moved my fish in yet but this is really frustrating and i have never had a tank with a filter like this before, any help would be really welcome.

Thank you

Hi Meeky,

I have the exact same problem with my BOYU MT 508 tank...I think Orca is the same name...

Anyway, I searched for this topic in the hardward/diy section, but I couldn't find it.

Did you manage to solve the problem?

I am totally new to fishkeeping, and this is my first tank, but I have no clue what to do. It is really noisey bacause the water pump does not have enough water in the section.

I have searched the net for any solutions, but I have found nothing.

Please let me know,

Thanks,
Maeve Dublin, Ireland.
