Hi all,

Just got a 17 liter cube tank to hold a betta splender, it was only £29.99 so i didn't expect anything special, Anyway i have added a spare 100watt heater to it but the filter it comes with is very clicky and noisy so i don't really want to use it, I do have a spare interpret filter that came with my old 48 liter fish box and was wondering if it would be ok to use it? it is pretty bulky though.

If not any suggestions on a good low flow filter, either internal or external?

Thanks

Err I can't really comment on the filter but what I would say is that 100w heater is an overkill for the 17 litre tank. I imagine when the heater turns on it will heat the water far past what you wish it to be at you likely find your temperatures being sky high and into a dangerous range of temperatures for your betta.

Yeh checked the whole filter, Impeller seem to be near silent when i have taken out the filter cartridge's but as soon as i either reduce the flow and/or add the filter cartridges back the impeller is loud again.

Good point regards the temperature i didn't consider this, just assumed it will turn on when temps drop and turn off straight after, What wattage would you recommend?

I have just purchased a 50Watt heater as the room that the tank will be in can drop to as low as 15 degrees in the dead of winter so will then be required to keep temps at 26 degrees.

This should be fine shouldnt it?

100W in a small tank would have been fine IMHO although maybe it takes up too much room, it has a thermostat and will not heat the water when it doesn't need to...

Your new 50W heater should be fine for the job regardless

I saw in person a Fluval 100w heater in a small tank push temperatures up to 36/38 degrees. I would be very wary about using a large heater for a small tank. I'm pretty sure they don't have temperature settings that high!

I know this sound silly if its an interal filter have you tried turn it upside down in the water whilst it's running? I was searching for a similar fix and according to the manufacturer a pocket of air can get trapped in the impeller housing causing such a noise.
