when my new tank 40 gallons has matured with plants and cycled which of the following can be put in the aquarium.

will there be any problems between them - my main aim is to keep tank clean and minimise algae if poss.

Zebra Loach 4
Otocinclus 6
Bristlenose 1
Corydoras Trilineatus 4

sounds good to me, but DONT add them all at the same time, as maybe in this order:

- Cories

- loaches

- oto's

- BN

This gives the tank chance to build up the required bacteria.

I'd do this over maybe a month a least

thanks for advice - what numbers do you think should be minimum for each?

loaches do well in groups of 3,
Cories groups of 6, but I've kept them and do keep them in groups of 3, and the breed in that size group so they must be happy.
Oto's now thats a difficult one, I cant seem to have more two, I had two, bught two new ones and the old ones went missing this has happened maybe 4 or 5 times, /me shrugs... but a larger group of these too, treat them in behaviourial ways to cories. ;)

The BN can be kept on its own, as they can become territorial. I keep my bn with a bulldog plec. They did fight when they were younger, but I sperated them to different tanks. I put them back together about 4 months ago, the BN is now about 4 times the size of the bulldog and they rarely fight.

thanks 'studz' very helpful - i shall ask my lfs if they stock these so i will know when the tank is well matured that they are readily available.

The trick to keeping otos well, is to have a well established tank with plenty algae for them to eat. They also love planted tanks, resting on the leaves when they're not eating the algae. Our tank had been up and running for quite a few months and we have 2 very well established filters. We originally bought 5 otos and they even started breeding for us. We have about 12 now in the community tank and a few in our fry tank as well.

As §tudz said, loaches can do well in groups of 3, but cories are at their happiest in groups of 5-6. We have 3 BN's and I think our original albino male would be happy if he were still the only one  .

Good luck and we look forward to your tank when its ready and you've finally stocked it.

:D
