I have just set up a new tank for cichlids and after 3 weeks introduced my rusty plec, he at present is only about 2 inches long.
The spray bar is spraying over the ocean rock causing brown algae build up which is not un common I hear for a new tank.
My rusty seems to do the job on the glass but is not on the rocks and they are getting to be quite a thick brown. Should I leave him to do his magic?
Am I asking too much?
I could move the spray bar but the oxygen bubbles over the rocks looks very effective and real.

I am not really sure how good of an algae cleaner the L077 aka Rusty pleco/bruon plecos are at algae control. Because different plecos are better at algae control then others. Like my Clown pleco rarely touched the algae she could care less. But is good at getting the left over food. My bristle nose is an awesome little worker she loves graze for algae.

I saw one of these Rusty Plecos at my local Fish shop. I thought about getting one but there was not enough info on them and I was looking for a pleco that was going to get some work done I already have one lazy princess my clown. If the Rusty pleco is not big on algae you might need to get a different kind. If they do turn out to be good algae cleaners then let him do his magic.

I am interesting to know if they are good algae cleaners did you here they were?

After last night i can say 'YES'. The Rusty cleared so much algae i could not believe it. :hyper:
So there is your answer.

Good to know. Enjoy him. They are cool looking fish you don't see them often.

So i was told. I saw a full size one selling for £60 :hyper:

Adult plecs can fetch a lot of money in the stores so if you can get the bigger one then £60 is a bargain. Some plecs vary in their efficiency at eating algae, some can't stand the stuff and some absolutely love it.
