New Tank :) 135 Gallons

Congrats on the new BIIIIG tank!

Forgetting about the height thing for a moment I would have said get more geo's, I've always liked the idea of a fairly big group of geo's in a tank that big...whether you could find more of the same that you have is another question though.

Maybe some hatchet fish? I haven't gotten on well with them but they could work out...the trouble I have is trying to keep frog bit in the tank for some cover, it just gets munched on super fast by other fish, faster than it grows....and they don't do well without cover to be fair. The ones I have also don't like much surface agitation or current...so they stay in a few select places in the tank and don't move around all that much.

Angel fish? Just a thought, I have no idea though...never kept them

It'll be interesting to see what you come up with, I need some upper level fish that move about a good amount and fit in with my the SA thing if possible...

Getting off the subject of top dwellers how about one off these beauties.

Good to see you back Wills,

You've already heard my suggestions for the tank :)

I have to admit tempted by Uarus but with them getting quite large like 10 inches and the tank only being 18 inches front to back..... Same reason why Im not thinking of Chocolates, Oscars or the larger Severum species.

I can see where you're coming from but, personally, I would not discount chocolates due to that. They are a very slow moving species, even slower than large sevs and oscars. Most things are done in slow motion with them. 18" is fine front to back for an adult choc. No way I'd put uaru or an oscar in there though.

Thanks for all the posts guys :) lots of help here.

Bonzo - I have seen them before lol but the chance of finding them is so so slim - well its just not going to happen really - plus I am yet to see one in water so not sure what they actually look like.....

Hamfist - thankyou for all the help so far really great stuff here :) I wont count the Chocolate Cichlid out just yet then! But I have to admit my girlfriend is not too keen on them but I am more than sure that if she sees one in a tank she will like them. Yeah totally agree Oscars and Uarus are out, if I had G.Altifrons or the larger Geos I would have pushed for the wider tank but given the Winemilleri seem to average 8 inches Im quite okay with them in there. I really am quite tempted by the Yellow Cons as I have read they are quite calm really so I am hoping comparable to my female Nic in those kind of terms. Ive tried mixing my sevs in this tank in the past and it was not great, I had a female Severus with my male and a male red spot - the red spot just did his own thing but the female got battered and I lost her :( I would have kept the red spot but the upgrade I bought for him was cracked so he had to go quite some time ago. I think perhaps I will just try and find one more male Severum and hope it works, unsure of species but it would be one of the smaller ones :)

Snowflake - thanks for the pictures, I do like them a lot but just thinking a group of them would fill out the tank quite a lot in terms of cichlids and stock and just wondering if a group of larger characins or the like might do a similar job..... Not sure though.

I assume you're talking about Archocentrus nanoluteus ... not a fish I have heard much about or even ever seen ! I assume they are pretty hard to get hold of. Do you know of anywhere with them available then ?

Yeah they are quite rare but not impossible to get hold of. Oddballs Express have a few 2 inchers in but there is a guy on AQ with some for sale of all sizes upto 4 inches emailed him yesterday but not heard anything yet......

I might make a few inquiries with some of the big shops and see if I can find someone that can import them?

Hi Wills, what on earth has been going on on this forum? You? Banned?! Whatever next!

Anyway, congrats on the bigger tank :good: ND Aquatics tanks are fab, so I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

As for Rotties, I am pretty sure I have 3 males and a female, so if you're looking for a decent sized male you could maybe take one of mine off me? I am looking at thinning numbers in my tank now as they are all getting bigger. My Rotties came from Star, and they are stunning fish. Trouble is they are a bit camera shy, so it's tough getting a decent pic of them. I'll post some pics in another thread, as I took some today.

I don't know what your Nic is like temperament wise, but mine is a bit of a cowb£g until another fish stands up to her then she backs down. She does like to chase the Rotties a bit, so maybe something to bare in mind. My big male stands up to her though, and she soon backs down.

I think Chocolate cichlids are lovely. They have lovely purple hues in the flesh. Much nicer than in a lot of photos of them. Never kept one though, so couldn't comment on whether they'd be suitable for your tank, but hamfist has and he seems to think it OK.

It's a shame your tank won't be a wee bit wider as I'd thoroughly recommend a Red Spot Sev. Mine just has so much personality, he's a real character. He actually does the gardening in the tank, arranging the silk plants, swims upside down and shivers etc. He's hilarious
