Hi all, I really need some advice I am really new to the whole marine thing and Im getting over loaded with all the info on the net ...

Equipment I have:

I have a 5ft x 2ft x 1.5ft tank, drilled with weir in the corner
1 tunze stream 6100
1 7095 multi controller
2 heaters
one rather small Sump

I do plan to get another Tunze stream, and a protien skimmer...

OK here goes, I want to keep some fish and soft coral only, what lighting do I need ???
I have been told an arcadia overhead luminaire with 4 T5 tubes would be sufficient ...
Will the arcadia overhead luminaire do the job or will I need Metal Halide ??? and if so what are my alternatives any help is more than welcome !
I would be greatful if anyone could suggest a really good protein skimmer and any other equipment I need, I was originally going to buy a Turboflotor Multi SL.

Many Thanks in advance :good:

t5's are bright enough to keep soft corals. If you can afford it though maybe look at halides as it future proofs you a bit. Trust me it gets addictive

Look at the ASM G2 or G3 protein skimmer. I use the G3 and have the same exact tank as you. The skimmer gets rid of EVERYTHING.

If you are going to the expense of a multicontroller and Tunze Streams then don't shgave pennies on the skimmer. Get a deltec recirculating skimmer to sit in the sump, or a Tunze skimmer (avoid the 9015, it is just the 9010 with a different collecting cup).

T5 tubes will be more than sufficient for most soft corals. A member of this board (Adrinal?) cultured anemones and some stony corals utilising shallower tanks and a single T5 with a reflector.

Thanks for all the replies, I just need some one to plumb it all together now

still a little undecided on whether i should go for hard corals or not ...
