My mother has given me a preformed pond. I am guessing that it is apprx 100-150 gallons. It may not be that big.

Anyway, I haven't set it up yet but I was wondering what I can do to just get by for now. I don't have a filter/pump for it yet, and it will be awhile before I can get one. I do have several air pumps though and I was wondering if I could use one of these with a large airstone/strip in the pond to keep the water turning. I don't really have a plan for fish yet, but I have been considering putting some of the convict fry(check my sig) in there....I am a little overrun with them at the moment. I do realize that it will have to be cleaned more often without a filter/pump, but I was wondering if this would work as a temporary fix to get it up and running.

Any ideas?

I had a pond for five years befor putting in a pump and fish
this was so natural looking and after a year it got frogs laying
spawn in it (good sign) with in 3 years I had mayflys visiting it.
I'm told they only go to good quality water :dunno:

Like i say it wasn't untill 5 years later that I added fish. :D

air pumps will help a little. would u be able to get ahold of some plants to go in the pond?

my pond has no pump running(it broke) which means mine isnt being filtered either. all i have is 2 huge lily's and some tons of Anacharis and all my fish r still alive and its been like that for like 4 months. but with no pump the bottom of the pond becomes covered in leaves, sticks and other natural objects and algae. bacily a nitrite farm forms at the bottom of the pond

Ponds don't need pumps and filters providing they aren't over stocked. If you stock it lightly it should be fine for a while providing you keep up the maintenace and use the air pump to oxygenate the water. :)

Thanks for all of the info!

I think I am going to get it in the ground today. As for the plants, yes I think I can get some native ones, I just don't have a lot of room for many b/c the pond is so small. I will let ya'll know how it goes.

Do yourself a favor and only get like three goldfish or a handfull of WCMM's (the coolest fish ever for a pond IMHO because of there tight schools) Good luck

White Cloud Mountain Minnows the easyest to breed egg layers they are small scholers with a neaon stripe and red fins
