All according, is your rock cured or uncured? But it sounds right, you get an ammonia spike first :good:

6Kg for a 120 litre tank is not nearly enough LR. Google the rule of thumb about pounds of LR per gallon or Kg per litre or wait for someone on this forum to offer more experienced advice.

I'd say you'd need around 15-20Kg of LR. This is of course if your LR is your only biological filter.

As said above, you need more rock if you are going to use Live Rock as your only form of filtration. The guide is 1kg per 10l, so a minimim of 12KG, double the current ammount :good: You also want a minimum of 10X an hour flow for Fish Only set-up's and 20-30X (coral-type dependant) for Reef set-up's

Make shure you finish your rock additions before adding any live stock, or you will get a mini-cycle, potentially wiping out the tank's inhabitants

Cycle times vary on the LR source and transport time, along with flow in the tank it goes into, amongst other things. Cured LR from a mature tank with less than 1/2 an hours travel time typically only needs about 1-2 weeks to cycle :good: Uncured rock will typically take a month ish...

thanks for the posts this isnt my only form of filtration i have a sump with filter and skimmer the live rock was fully cured i asked them to test the water at the lfs and all was well it took 20 mins for me to get home and then get it to tank it has been running since sunday there is a little bit of ammonia between 0.6 and 1.2 my test kit isnt that accurate no visible nitrite and no nitrates i will be adding my live rock later all tho will cure this in a separate tank and then add to my big tank probably another 6kg will my reading be affected because there is no massive amounts of water flow i am waiting for my powerheads to come from ebay all the water flow i have is from my return pump

just done a test and the ammonia has dropped a little compared it to tuesdays test but still no visible nitrites

Lack of flow could caurse the "Live Rock" to become "Dead Rock". It needs flow to survive long-term...
