Hey,

Recently got a new tank its not too big, 63l I think! Which is around 14 gallon, im learning the hard way about the water cycle having already lost a few fish! Waters been up for a week and a half, local fish shop sold me two Clown Loaches which would servive acording to them, one died and one is alive, im currently trying to keep him alive.

Anyway........what I wanted to ask is with my tank of 63L what fish will be happy living in there? I relise its a bit small for Clown Loaches but this tank isnt forever, I want few fish up and living for say a year before I purchase a larger tank. Any good fish to try? I dont really like tetra's I like fish with personality although I could be wrong, they dont seem intresting to me.

Cheers

HI,

I'm pretty new to this, currently cycling my second tank without fish, but I did cycle the first tank with fish. I am surprised your lfs gave you clown loaches to cycle a tank, they are not known for this and i don't think they are that hardy! i would take him back, even if it's only until your tank is ready. you could then fishless cycle?, which may be a lot faster if your filter has already got a bacterial colony from the clowns!

danios (zebra, leopard, golden) have great personality, VERY active, always hungy, and can tolerate not so perfect water conditions (such as a cycling or new tank).

hope this helps

Thanks I know they dont seem the fish to put in, like a said one has already died and im pretty sure the other one will although im holding out for him! Ill look into the ones you suggested, I gotta go back to the pet shop tomorrow anyway so ill have a look around, thanks.

Hi,

if you are going back anyway - call them first, aks them to have him back (even for a while) and finish the cycling without fish, it's faster and you don't lose fish!

if you are in the UK, Homebase "household Ammonia" is what you need.

thanks

If you don't fancy tetras, you might want to look into:

livebearers (guppies, platies or endlers)- they like company but move more as individuals, and become tame really quickly

corydoras- VERY endearing bottom feeders, may be shy at first, but if kept in a group of at least 3 should start being active in tank soon

honey gouramis (not more than 1 male though)

khuulie loaches- look like small snakes, again need to be in groups if you want to see them

Thanks mate, I was looking at guppies at first but like a said the lfs said the Clown Loaches would be ok in the water, the one alive seems to be surviving but is probaly suffering.

The corydoras sound good too ill have to have a look into them, thinking about it I think I might of been looking at them too.

Cheers
