Hi,

I bought a little Pleco today....it was sold to me as a Chocolate Zebra growing to about 6 in ( at the mo it's about 1.5-2 in). I've tried searching on the web for photos of choc zebras and I can't seem to find one and at the moment the little guy/girl is a bit shy and hiding in a cave, I'll try and add a photo later.

I wondered if anyone here ownes one of these and could post a photo so I can compare the plecos.

Thanx for any help,
Leanne

Is it a L270?

Hi,

mmmm....sort of the same but different?!?!? my one has wide brown stripes and thin cream one going across the back of the pleco(both lot of strips are unbroken, straight and almost clean edged) My one also has lines running from barbs to the top of it's head.

The little bugger is still hiding so no pic as yet -_-

Thanx
Leanne

is the body shape the same? I'm assuming it is some kind of hypancistrus?

is it any of these?
L129
L199
L316

Hi Davo86,

Firstly......Thanx for trying to help me with this ;)

Right the closest photo I've seen is photo number 8 on the L199 page as this one has the clean lines and no squiggles.

If you can imagine an L046 but instead of being black and white this one is chocolate brown and cream.....but the cream stripe isn't as thick as the brown (I'd say the cream is about a third of the thickness)

And you've gueesed it he's STILL camera shy!!
Thanx
Leanne

I'm starting to wonder if it might actually be a Panaque species as the colours and pattern resemble a few species

lol IDing a possible hypan without a pic is as good as dont bother u will definitly need a pic either way then we can help u much easier :)

also if it is only 1.5 inch then it could turn out 2 be 1 of many hypans juvis pretty much look like 1 another with closly matched plecs so makes it even harder 2 try and ID from a disciption :)

Blimey your not joking!!

I've seen some that are similar but nothing that's exact (to my untrained eye anyway!!)
I'm going to try and get a photo of him/her as I just decide what it is.

Thanx for you help and I'll try and get the photo on ASAP

yeh a photo will help but if it is a hypan species at that size it still could be a possibilty of 4-5 species lol but get a photo and we'll go from there :)
