I bought a new 3" pleco today. i have no idea what kind it is and will resist describing it until I can actualy tell what its markings look like. I was just wondering what he will eat besides algae. I have sinking Catfish pellets an dshrimp Pellets

It depends what sort it is. Some of mine like corguette or cucumber, but some won't touch it and prefer prawn. What colour is it for a start, does it have an L number?

description- He is an olive green/brownish and has lighter splotches of Cream colored patches that seem to be in random places. It has two rows of spikes on its side. I will try to get a pic

sounds like a bristle nose..

Sorry to sound like a nasty bloke - But you really should'nt buy any fish without knowing what it is and what its dietry requirements are.

Quite a lot of plecs wont eat much algae and some simply wont and will need their own food - eg prawn cockles and other meaty foods...

true but the fish will soon let you know what he is eating as for algea eaters all my so called algea eating plecos eat everything thats layed on a plate for them

Does it have an orange seam on the fins?
no orange seam. I know i shouldnt of bought it. They couldnt tell me the species name. Really the on;ly thoing i need to know if it is a Peckoltia, Hypancistrus,Panaque or whatever. Do the number of rows of Spikes on its side have anything to do with it. I just checked again and it actually has 3 and may have a fourth. He is very small and I am debating moving him to My 10 until i can find out what he likes to eat. So far mostly everything i have dropped in my sev has eaten. Would it be a good idea to make the move? all thats in my 10 is 3 cories. I just looked on PC and he is not a bristlenos. It looks like on its head it is starting to get some greenish yellow. The cream colored stuff isnt as splotchy as i thought and is more like little lines that run randomly and he has lighter patches of olive than the rest of his body.

At the moment i dont think it is very important what it is because i drop in mostly anything any Plec Eats. Wood, Pellets, Cucumber, and there is some algae on THe back wall. I can also buy algae sheets if need be. Really that is the only reason i felt safe buying it and not knowing what it is.
