I promised myself never to buy these fish again. I had real misfortune with them almost a year ago when I bought 4 from Trimar(at huge expense). One died within 2 days, another a week later, another 2 months down the line and the last approx 3 months. I fed them a vast variety of food - fresh/live, thawed (frozen), mussel, wafers galore - you name it. When the died, there were absolutely no signs of illness at all - and they were the only fish ever I lost in that (extremely stable, mature) tank.
I put it down to wild caught and not taking well to transport (who can blame them).

But today when I walked into Wholesale Tropicals and saw a tank with 5 gigantic males, I just froze in my tracks. They were super stunning and without a shadow of a doubt I was walking out with at least one of them ! They were imported directly and have been there for 10 days already, so i decided to take my chances again.

I came home with this fella and just really hope (with all my fingers crossed) that he does well. I can't bear to lose such a beautiful fish :-(

I had to put him into a dish for the pic, there was no way I’d get a half decent photo once in the tank and in hiding.

nice find :)

Was it really a year ago

I hope you have a lot more luck with this guy ;)

P.S. I still say only their mother could love them :p
(although he does look rather striking)

haha - you're just jealous ! (kidding - I know what you mean - it's a bit like Marmite)

Yeah - I think it was around April last year I order my other lot from Trimar. Time flies hey ?

Fingers crossed this time

Oh he is absolutely beautiful. What ya gonna call him?

But today when I walked into Wholesale Tropicals

Terry must love you ;)

that is one odd looking pleco
sort of like a medusa cross adonis

Good luck this time Bloo

I saw the tank in wholesale with these in on monday, and if I'd had the cash, I would have bought one too. They look amazing, I hope you have better luck with him this time round!

lol I generally don't name fish and think it's bad luck - even though I'm not superstitious in any way, I think it's sod's law to name a fish only for it to die. Then it will be like "Bertie" died (which makes it more personal), rather than just "the fish died". Doesn’t make sense at all, but hey

Oh he loves me indeed ! (or my ever-so-willing credit card rather).

It is a Medusa - but a "spotted" version :). The same as SirM's "broccoli". The L255 is just the spotted version of the L034.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes  He's still alive and kicking today (not the bucket that is!).

Will update on progress in time.

I didn't realise Medusas came in colours, just seen the std brown ones.
thanks for that tidbit Bloo

Thanks Mells. I know you especially can appreciate what beautiful fish they are. Do you still have any left ?

Thanks Bloozoo,

I have 4 L034 Left & 2 L255 Left, all are doing well, do you plan to get anymore L255? obviously not yet, but eventually?

Mells :)

I'm very happy to hear that Mells :D Well, if 5 months down the line this one is still alive and doing well, yes I would certainly love to. But at £35 / £40 a pop I'm not chancing and more losses. This really is my last go with these fish.
