This plant is making new plants right? did that make sense? lol What do I do? Can I use this eventually for a new plant? Should I leave this long stem?

That doesn't look like a flower stem to me, looks like a runner, yes; a new plant.

If you leave it the baby plant will grow and get heavier and eventually bend the stem down enough for it to be able to root; you can hurry the process along by bending the stem yourself and holding it down with a stone; but be careful not to snap the stem, as until the baby has roots of it's own, it's relying on the parent plant for it's nutrients :good:

I thought so on the runner. Just wasn't phrasing it well lol Ohh..roots won't grow off of it how it is? Its in a corner of the tank so there isn't a great place to bend it to...but I have to say...I'm loving my little plant for cloning itself....Free plants +1 :)

Thanks for the reply.

Learn something new everyday, not seen a plant reproduce like that. Only my Java Ferns on the leaf tips.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, it will grow roots eventually, on it's own :good:

Great! Thanks. Gonna watch it closely :) Almost as fun as fish babies.

If you leave it you may well end up with quite a few little swords on there.

I leave them as they fill in the the spaces higher in the tank.

It certainly isn't hurting anyone up there. Can you snip the topmost ones when they get big enough or does pretty much end the stem? I like the idea of leaving it. well...I also like the idea of growing my own plants. haha

Sorry to hijack, but my bf's sword is doing the same. He has 4 or 5 plants on the stem, and the parent plant is really starting to suffer. Is there anything you can do to help the parent out?
