He really is stunning :good: - you sure its a he?

I hope you have a big tank there as they grow to 20 cm and will eat smaller fish such as tetras when fully grown!

LOL, they can grow far in excess of 20cm, they wont eat smaller fish or any fish at all (not sure where you got that from) unless it has already died first and then feeds of there carcess. They are omniverous and usually eat bio-film and organic matter with varied veg etc etc.

To the OP he is really a stunner and youve picked a lovely species to keep :)

Not sure if it's a he or a she as I am not sure what the differences are. Any help appreciated! He's in my Rio 180 at the moment so has plenty of space. He is out quite a bit too which from what I have read is a bit unusual as they are normally very shy. He loves hikari wafers and my catfish pellets. Have put peas/courgette in too but haven't seen him show any interest in them.

Thanks Fishyjake he/she really is a super fish and takes pride of place in the aquarium.

They can grow bigger in the wild but 20 cm or 8 inches is the usual size for captive ones.

Still wrong but i dont think it really matters what is said but just to let you know they have and can reach 12-14 inches wild or captive. The apparent smaller varity is the L81 which still will get bigger than the 20 cm(8inch) size youve suggested.
