Hi everyone, I’ve just got a baby peacock bass (about 4 inches) and I was wondering if it’s ok too keep with goldfish. He’s no where near being able to eat them. Would there be a problem with that?

Peacock bass seem to be the new dead fish swimming buy. If the water quality with a goldfish doesn't kill it, then I hope you have a 180 gallon tank. He's 4 inches now, but he'll grow and eat the goldfish, if you don't kill him first. That's a fish you should have researched first and decided to keep later.

I did research it. My tank conditions are perfect and everything and I know he’s gonna eat them eventually,I just wanted to know if the fish were gonna stress him out or anything.

This sounds like a disaster in the making.
Do you think I should return him and try with something else? I have experience with taking care of fish and even breeding them I’m just not used to predatory fish like this one.

What type of peacock bass is it?

They are superb fish I have a large kelberi PB, however they are very predatory not in a nasty way but if something can be food they will try.

They do grow quickly but if you have the tank space then enjoy it

I’m not actually sure what kind it is, I wasn’t aware there’s multiple types. I do know they’re cichlids and not bass though. Can you tell me what kind based on these pictures?

I wouldnt have a clue they are so difficult to ID as youngsters especially as there are so many hybrids now knocking about

My kelberi is just about the smallest type but he is a bulky 17" male fish most others grow way bigger than that

I don't have one, but this seller lists like 10 different varieties, and provides info on each...
