New Oscar

Hey everyone. I just got a new 3 inch albino oscar. And when I put him in, he was at the bottom of the tank. Anyone knows whats up?

75 gallon, has been cycled for 2 weeks. Parameters are good.

Nice! Oscars are some of the best fish. This is normal behavior he'll warm up to the new tank.

Be sure to keep testing your water for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. 2 weeks is likely not long enough for the tank to cycle.

What method did you use to cycle the tank?

I have never kept Oscars, so I can't comment specifically on their behavior, but any fish will tend to hide, or stay towards the bottom of the tank where there are likely tank decorations for them to hide among when they are fist added to a tank. Being netted in a fish store, transported in a bag, and then dumped into a new tank that is unfamiliar to them is stressful on ANY fish and it can take several days/weeks for some fish to feel comfortable and behave normally (for their species). I would give the little guys time to settle in and they are likely to become more active. I don't think Oscars are very active swimmers anyway? Like I said, I have never kept them, but when I have seen them in tanks they don't swim around like mad... they seem to swim around docile-like... unless it is feeding time, or they are after another tank mate..

So it has been two days since I got my albino oscar. He is still hiding behind the heater. And only coming out when im not there. He also has black on his back fins.

I used quick start, for 2 weeks, while also putting fish food for the bacteria..

It's been 3 days since I got my Oscar, and he is still hiding. He is also not eating and I've seen him pooping and it was white. Please help!

White poop is caused by the fish not eating. What are you trying to feed it? How big of a tank is it? Are there any other tank mates?

We need ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings to give proper advice. It is extremely possible that this tank has not been cycled fully.

Oscars are very active fish, but also very moody. They are known to sulk when they are upset. This behavior is common to stressed fish as well. Stress can be due to a new environment, a bully, or poor or improper water conditions.

We need exact numbers of your water parameters (current numbers) to give any further advice.
