I just completed mynew oak light hood. Picture in planted tank forum if curious
It fits on my 23g tank. I have 2 34w compact flourescents and 2 13w compact flourescents in it plus moonlights and 6 fans. It reduce my temps with fans on from high 80's F with lights on to 81F with them on.
I can run the light in various combinations to give me anywhere from 2.4w per gallon to 5+. I can also run the fans in several combinations, rear two only (one blowing in other out, right (Out Only) and left (in) only, all, rear plus right only.
I cant describe how wel it has worked out.
Solid 1" Oak with rabbits at bottom to fit over tank edge and cover the frame plus hinging inside to hold Lid open when working on tank, feeding etc.

More pics available if desired.

Thanks for looking,
Bob

To keep it cool from all those lights :)

and you usally will only see fans on reef tanks because they have some killer lighting systems
