Hi everyone, my name is Jon, finally getting back into aquariums after a few years off. I am setting up a new tank and have a few questions about water. I have VERY chlorinated tap water available, VERY hard well water available, and RO water available, whats everyone's opinion on which would be best for initial fill, or even any combination of the three?

Hi, welcome to the forum! I would use the tap water, but I'm a beginner fish keeper so see what the others say.

It would depend on what species of fish you were hoping to stock it with.

I use filtered water but not reverse osmosis filtration. I've read RO can take to much out that's beneficial. But I would use RO before tap water (I live in the Phoenix Metro area and I wouldn't put feeder fish in our water!)

I know Seachem makes all the proper chemicals to add the minerals back to the water, and have no problem getting them, if I did does it take longer to cycle the tank? Would it be beneficial to add partial tap water/well water when filling? Or would it be better to use the RO and readjust what beneficial materials were filtered out?

By the way, thank you all for the welcome to the group, I have done a lot if aquariums in the past but have never been faced with the water issues I deal with now. My tap water has so much chlorine in it that it is undeniable (eyes are red after a shower), well water is so hard you can literally see a cloud of brown blowing out under water when filling a pail
