Hi well i guess i am the new person here today lol.I recently tried breeding bettas and starting off i did not research the proper foods for them so i lost them.So now i have the WW,BW and MW cultures going and am giving it a try again. So far they hatched out today and are looking well.I am also looking to meet breeders of bettas in Illinois especially those that breed HM.So please post here if you have them.Thank you

welcome to the forum!!!
im in NY, not Il, but still fun to see state's people here. plenty of breeders on this site...and lots of help for probs.
good luck with the spawn...sounds like you are better prepared this time. and people here LOVE pics. so lets ee em:)
cheers

never worry about having live food cultures i feed all my fry dry food - no live food apart from whats present in the tanks - i mostly use mature set ups to spawn in

LIVE food only is a myth for raising betta fry - so if you cant get hold of it in future or you lose the cultures i'll tell you what i feed mine-
I get excellent growth rate

For the first 4 weeks - fry are being fed on dry food - NO live food - 4x a day -
Dry food consists of a mix of these 1 choice per feed - ZM 000 and 00 moving on to 0 lol , hikari first bites , red crumb , super high pro + fry , DUSTED - spirulina , algae , seaweed , bloodworm , brineshrimp and daphnia

They then get fed 3 times a day from 4 weeks old 1 of the high protein meals a day - from above then for the other 2 meals are selected from JBL mini colour enhance pellets , nutrafin micro , hikari betta gold , frozen mixed block - thawed , green lipped mussle and bloodworm pellets

Here is the male.

those bettas are both 100% male veil tails. please dont try to breed those two :( only end up with a seriously injured fish or fishes.
also, that tank looks a bit small. if you were to fill it up and remove the divider, it JUST might me big enough to properly house one of those males(depending on the size of the tank) ...they neeeeed heaters! they are tropical fish. without removing that divider, there is not a small enough heater on the market to fit in that tank. also you should be changing 50% of that water at least every other day without a filter and feeding very sparingly go find a second tank and set it up right for the welfare of those boys. it is simply a marketing gimmick that makes the consumer think that these are acceptable houses for a betta, let alone two. sorry the fish store misled you but it happens all too often, especially with betta fish.

Well your wrong because i have babies from them :good: .The container was for picture taking.

They look like both males to me too. I sincerely hope thats not thier permanent home, but as you have said it was just for picture taking.

that definately looks like a female VT to me
female Vt's have longer fins than other female tailed bettas and are often confused with males - but the fin doesn't curve down long over the back

before breeding her again - leave 4-6 weeks to make sure all her fins are healed and condition them both for a further 2 weeks

NOW you need make sure you have all the containers ready for the male fry - you can end up with 60-80 males from a single spawn - these will need to be seperated from 8 weeks of age - the single containers will need to be kept warm - constant temperature and receive daily water changes of 25-50% (can alternate do 25 one day 50 the next)

here's a few of my young eggy VT girls - now moved on to good homes

well then thats the most masculine female ive ever seen.
Someone said she looked like a cambodian betta.I know whatever she is she throws some strong babies.

Well she probably will not be bred until the babies are raised and find new homes.I am in no rush to produce more babies.

Im sorry to say this, but you should not have mated those two. Not only will they produce really ugly babies, they're Veiltails. Veiltail bettas are fail.

Edit: Btw didn't I see your same exact post on the Aquabid forums? You said all your babies died because you thought you only fed them every two days instead of twice everyday. Research my man, research.

a lot of people still love veiltails and they have their own class again with the IBC
What makes you say the babies will be really ugly they wont the match is a good one as far as colouring and genetics is concerned- with the cambodian colour of the mum and the red of the dad

you certainly should never mix tail types when breeding bettas unless you are devloping a combtail/half sun or feather tail line

welcome hun - you should have some real nice looking babies from that pairing
