Hello, I'm Mars. I have a couple of tanks.
Right now, I only have my 55 and 10 gallon running, and I'm just beginning to stock in with fish.
I haven't been into the hobby for years, I stopped after too many dead fish, just broke my heart. I know you lose some in this hobby, but I hate it.

In my 10 gallon I have a female Betta, and 2 Guppies, plus 2 snails.

In my 55 gallon. I have 6 corys and 4 Kuhli Loaches. I love those little things!
I was thinking of getting some tiger barbs, platies, neon tetra, and maybe red tail shark or rainbow shark. With some otos and maybe a bristlenose Pleco.
I also want some clown loach. (Yes, I know how big they get. :) ) But this wouldn't be their permanent tank. I have a 150 or 200 gallon tank for them later, when they get bigger. I just don't want to put either large tank up right at the moment. Not when I don't need to right now.

So, what are all the new tips and tricks that I missed out on while I was away from the hobby?

Thank you!!

And It is so nice to join!!

Welcome to TFF

Avoid the tigers and the "sharks", the aggression they will show as they age will not be fun to deal with

Thank you for the welcome!

I never had tiger barbs but wanted some, are they really that aggressive?

I have had sharks, and never had a problem with them. Have they got worse over the years?
That's sad.

I appreciate the advice!

I have 4 tiger barbs, 4 black skirt tetras, and 2 BN plecos in my 29 gallon tank and luckily they all get along just fine. The tiger barbs have their moments of chasing each other but for most of the time they just chill. I've had as many as 9 tiger barbs in the tank but over the years some died off. The TB are very interesting to watch and are quite boisterous at feeding time.

You might consider entering your 10 gallon tank in the Tank of the Month contest which is now accepting entries for tanks sized at 16 US gallons and smaller. Click link to view the entry thread.

Why not look at Rosy Barbs or Black Ruby Barbs, they have better personalities than Tigers. What is your water like? I have a 150 gallon with Discus, and I'm loving it. With those larger tanks you can do some really cool stuff. Welcome to the forum :hi:

Black ruby barbs (aka ruby barbs) look similar to tiger barbs except in spring and summer when the males colour up and look quite nice. they are also much more peaceful than tiger barbs.
